M1935 Single Decal Beaded Luftschutz Helmet (Veteran Captured)

This M1935 Beaded Luftschutz helmet was captured by Sergeant Robert L. Williams in July 1944 from a large pile of abandoned German military items.  Mr. Williams served with the famous 506th Parachute Infantry of the 101st Airborne Division which jumped the morning of June 6th 1944 into occupied France.  Mr. Williams left England at 11:05pm the night of June 5th on C-47 315046.  He parachuted at 1:30am into occupied France just east of Saint Mere Eglise near the tiny village of Fourcarville.  Mr. Williams fought with the 506th in all major actions during the Normandy campaign as well as that of the famous battle for the Arnhem bridge better known as "The Bridge Too Far."  Mr. Williams carried this helmet along with him through his entire service time in Europe until he shipped home and discharged from active duty on December 1, 1945.  Mr. Williams lives to this day and is best known for his photograph taken by TIME MAGAZINE during his famous jump with other surviving veterans over Normandy in 1994.  Mr. Williams is a living example of just a handful of men who despite their age made a second jump over the famous battle area during the 50th Anniversary of D-Day before crowds and leaders of the free nations of the world.  Mr. Williams' famous photograph (shown below) was published numerous times by TIME MAGAZINE and was made famous the world over in 1994.  You can contact Mr. Williams and obtain his book "My Return to Normandy" and other publications by visiting his website.  A signed letter of authenticy from Robert Williams for the helmet photographed below has been documented as historical verification of the article shown.  Thanks goes to Robert Williams for his donation to this website as well as his devoted service time in the defense of his country.
