Buckles of this kind are generally on
chinstraps dated 1940 and later. The buckle is a bit longer than
most with a very long prong. The leather is brown on one side and
black on the other. Black thread is used to sew the buckle to the
leather. Because of the odd shape of this buckle, many collectors
instantly dismiss this buckle as a postwar reproduction. From a
historical standpoint, the buckle is original and simply yet another
standard variation in acceptable chinstrap components. Many
different buckles were manufactured in Germany both before and during
the war. Buckles for every type of conceivable purpose were used
on all sorts of leather equipment. |
