Field-Gray Painted Buckles

A number of manufacturers produced buckle hardware that was painted various shades of field-gray.  This particular chinstrap exhibits a very light coat of paint that is barely noticeable until examined closely.  Other manufacturers used darker shades of field-gray paint as well.  The leather on this chinstrap is brown on both sides.  The thread is tan colored.
