Gray Painted Buckles

Painted buckles began to appear as early as 1940 on some but not all chinstraps produced.  This chinstrap has a very large buckle and light-gray paint finish.  The leather is very dark brown on one side and black on the other.  Black thread was used to secure the buckle to the leather.
