Collector Topics: Camouflage - M1940 Heer Green Camouflage over White

In the spring of 1945 many German helmets were repainted "field green" to cover the white finish used during the last winter of the war.  This M1940 single decal helmet bears testimony to this type of camouflage scheme.  Under the thick, paste-like green paint can bee seen the remains of a previous coat of white over the original factory finish color.  Remains of the decal can be seen under the air vent.  The thick texture of the paint is common to those helmets painted using the issued colors that came in cans of paste.
