The M1940 helmet illustrated below depicts the typical spray painted finish common to helmets used in France in 1944.  This helmet was captured by a US veteran and sent home as a war souvenir.  The paint consists of a light tan to which a green finish has been sprayed.  The tan paint was applied by brush while the green paint was sprayed onto the helmet. Little wear can be found on the helmet demonstrating that some camouflage helmets were used very little before they were captured or abandoned on the field of battle.
