Heer (Army):  M1918 Ear Cut-Out Helmet Photos

This M1918 Ear Cut-Out Helmet exhibits the typical hand painted finish applied approximately 1934-35 as part of the overall upgrading of helmets to comply with the newly established German Wehrmacht (Armed Services).  This helmet was worn by an enlisted cavalry soldier (Reiter) by the name of "Neis" as hand painted in the rear flange of the helmet.  The helmet was acquired from a retired US serviceman who obtained the helmet while in Germany in 1967.  This retired officer received the helmet as a gift from his German landlord who served in the Wehrmacht during World War II.
