HJ-Freiwillige Feuerwehren Helmets

Helmet Description

As with other fire-fighting units, Hitler Youth volunteer fire-fighters (HJ-Freiwillige Feuerwehren) were equipped with standard civic model M1934 firemen’s helmets. These light-weight helmets were painted semi-gloss black and generally had an aluminum comb on the crown for added protection. A black leather neck flap protected the wearer from heat and falling debris. Several different helmet models were designed for fire-fighting use and it is possible that many of these styles were used by Hitler Youth volunteers. Two common helmets that were used are shown below.
