Decal Description

Helmets worn by Hitler Youth volunteer fire-fighters (HJ-Freiwillige Feuerwehren) were often adorned with two decals bearing the standard Hitler Youth diamond insignia.  The decals were made in the shape of a pointed bottom shield in which the diamond insignia was centered.  The decal had a fine white border around its sides to make it more visible when placed on the black painted fireman's helmet.  These specialized decals are the only known type used on Hitler Youth volunteer fire-fighting helmets¹.  Speculation holds that the standard Hitler Youth diamond shaped decal may also have been used for this purpose, but to date no solid examples have surfaced to warrant this concept.
