Luftschutzwarndienst Helmet Photos - Beaded Model Helmets

This mint example of the standard M1935 beaded model helmet is configured in the typical fashion for the Air Protection Warning Service (Luftschutzwarndeinst or Luftschutz).  Some collectors speculate that these helmets were actually combat helmets that were rejected for various flaws in steel composition, thickness, or stamping characteristics.  This particular example bears such an "error" in that a third air vent bushing was partially drilled on the inside dome of the helmet.  This may give evidence to the fact that the helmet was "rejected" and then relegated to civilian "medium duty" work after the bead was added.  Luftschutz helmets were factory painted a variety of colors including satin blue, dark gray, and black.
