Luftwaffe (Air Force):  Fire Protection Helmet Photos

German Air Force (Luftwaffe) fire fighting personnel were equipped with standard black painted fireman's helmets with two decals depicting the Luftwaffe eagle and the National tri-colored shield.  A white painted line was placed on the center of the helmet to associate it with fire protection duties.  Helmets were generally issued with metal combs on the top, although many original examples show that these were often removed by their owners.  All helmets could accommodate the addition of a black leather flap that served as a heat shield to protect the wearer's neck.
