The
helmet shown below is an excellent example of the typical reissued NSKK
style helmet. The M1935 helmet was originally configured as a double
decal Luftwaffe helmet with smooth paint finish. In 1941 it was factory refinished as a single decal
Luftwaffe helmet with textured paint. The helmet was then drawn
from Luftwaffe supply stores by the NSKK where it was once again repainted a
light blue glossy finish. The single Luftwaffe decal was
removed prior to the application of the NSKK insignia. It is important
to note that the color of the NSKK decal has been purposely done by the
application of an orange-gold colored lacquer. This coloring has been
noted on other NSKK helmets and it is believed that the color
denoted a specific unit within the NSKK. Other colors noted on some
helmets include the basic silver of the standard NSKK decal, as well as a blue
tinted lacquer. This helmet was found in Europe in the 1970's by the
well known and established collector George Peterson. The
helmet is an extra large sized 68cm shell manufactured by the firm of Quist.
