Most parade helmets used by the German
Police (Deutsche Polizei) were of the typical civic model lightweight
patterns. These included both the "square" and "curved" dip
versions, as well as the multitude of variant patterns used.
Most helmets used for parade purposes were in fact no different than
those used in general wear. However, a handful of parade helmets
were generally painted in a light blue-gray color. This paint
was smooth and generally very glossy. On either side of the
helmet was placed the German Police eagle as well as the National
Socialist Party insignia. In some cases, the Police Eagle was
the type without borders, however it seems by far the largest
majority received the second pattern decal with a border. This
was due to regulations and the fact that the bordered
decal was felt to be more visible against the darker color of
police helmets. The bordered decals were initially intended
for use on lightweight firemen's helmets, but were generally distributed to all
polices forces. Liner systems in these helmets were identical to
the regular service helmet. A large number of civic pattern
chinstraps and liners existed. Most of the helmets manufactured
for the German Police were made by smaller companies. These were
located in both Germany and Austria which accounted for some minor
variations in shell style, retaining bolts, liners, and
decals.
