Reichsarbeitsdienst:  National Labor Service Period Photos

An enhanced photo cut from a previously displayed photograph shows National Labor Service (Reichsarbeitsdienst-RAD) members celebrating a special occasion.  Both members depicted wear M1942 pattern helmets with single (or possibly double) RAD decals on the left side of the helmet.  Clearly evident in the photograph are the chinstraps which are not tightly buckled.  This may be due simply to the fact that these members are quite young and the chinstraps possibly too long for their standard head and chin proportions.  From the looks of the tan leather liners, these helmets were probably new or recently issued.  The oversized appearance of the wide neck guard found on the M1942 is evident.
