M1940 Double Decal Combat Police Helmet - Battle of the Bulge Veteran

This helmet was captured by Mr. Orvell DeBruin while serving as a T/5 in the 487th Engineers in World War II.  Mr. DeBruin captured the helmet during the "Battle of the Bulge" in Belgium during the winter of 1944-45.  He carried the helmet home in his duffle bag as a souvenir.  The helmet bears testimony to the veterans who served during this battle.  Damage across the crown of the helmet is evidence of a high impact detonation common to that of artillery barrages.  The helmet is a typical Quist manufactured shell with double decals common to helmets factory produced by that firm.  Many German units were organized for this battle.  Units which saw action included members of both Waffen-SS and German Army combat police formations which may have worn this helmet.
