Helmet Description

Members of the DRK who held responsibilities that required hazardous duty were authorized to wear protective headgear.  During wartime DRK members who served as sanitation personnel in bomb damaged areas, as first aid and medical workers in combat zones, and as search and rescue workers often wore steel helmets.  These helmets typically included both medium and lightweight M1934 model civic helmets, beaded M1935, M1940, and M1942 helmets, and also a number of privately manufactured M1918 style helmets.  In fact, a wide variety of helmets were worn in the DRK with the most common being the M1934 pattern medium and civic model helmets.  Of those known to be originals, the color of the helmet is most often a smooth medium to dark gray finish.  These helmets were usually equipped with standard civic model liner systems found in a variety of styles.
