Insignia Description

Insignia worn on helmets used by the SA Regiment “Feldherrnhalle” underwent several changes as the unit was transferred to Luftwaffe control. The first helmets worn by the SA bore two decals typical of those worn on other helmets used in the SA. The next insignia change included one representing the Feldherrnhalle monument and another with a swastika in a circle sitting in the center of a shield. After the unit was transferred to the Luftwaffe, the swastika shield was removed from general use. Decals now consisted of the standard “second pattern” Luftwaffe decal introduced in 1937 and the Feldherrnhalle decal. Helmets worn by SA members continued to use both the Feldherrnhalle decal and the swastika shield, although the positioning was again reversed sometime after 1942.

Notes:

¹ Collectors should be aware that excellent reproductions of these decals have been produced for more than a decade. Recent reproductions have surfaced as late as the year 2000. These newer reproductions are printed in central Europe and are being used to counterfeit this rare insignia. Collectors should inspect any supposed authentic helmet before making an investment in this helmet configuration.
