SA-Hilfspolizei Helmets

Helmet Description

Limited photographic evidence suggests that the short lived SA-Hilfspolizei unit wore standard issue, brown painted World War I pattern helmets in the M1916, M1917, and M1918 models. Helmets worn may also have included the Austrian pattern M1918 which was commonly in circulation with both the German Army and other political and quasi-military formations. The only known photograph of an SA-Hilfspolizei helmet indicates that the left side of the helmet bore a large swastika on a white field surrounded by a red border. Because this unit existed for only a few short months (February through March 1933), it is unlikely that additional photographs will surface to clarify the exact nature of helmets worn by the SA-Hilfspolizei.
