Helmet Description

Between 1935 and 1939 members of the Security and Assistance Service (Sicherheits und Hilfdienst-SHD) were issued “beaded” M1935 helmets painted a satin dark blue finish.  Beaded model helmets were those designated for civilian use but whose general appearance was that of a standard combat helmet with the addition of a metal bead around the center.  Security and Assistance Service helmets were required to carry the generic winged decal insignia common to all Air Protection (Luftschutz) helmets.  In addition some helmets bore police decals as defined by regulations governing any organization that fell under police authority.

A number of early production helmets were assembled using M1931 pattern combat liners, although most carried the typical civic model liners and chinstraps.  By 1940, units were equipped with newer model beaded M1940 pattern helmets.  These were configured the same as the previous models.
