    M1918 SS-VT Transitional Model Helmet

The helmet shown below is an early model M1918 transitional used by the SS-Verfügungstruppe (SS-VT) prior to the issuing of the newer M1935 steel combat helmet.  Many World War I model helmets were used by the early SS.  The most common of these was the late pattern M1918 helmet that was void of side rivets used to hold the chinstrap in place.  These later patterned M1918 helmets were able to accommodate the M1931 liner as well as the transitional three pad leather liners.
