Waffen-SS M1935 Double Decal Combat Helmet

This M1935 Double Decal Combat helmet was found in the spring of 2004 at an estate sale in Alabama, USA.  The helmet was a veteran's souvenir brought back at the conclusion of the war.  The helmet was found in a yard sale and went "unsold" until it was given away along with other items that needed to be disposed of.  This particular shell has a liner marked "1939" and was manufactured by the Quist firm as indicated by the "Q62" on the inside rim and production code "4565" on the rear.  The front right liner retaining rivet has a gash that exposes the soft plated brass rivets used during early manufacturing.  Collectors should note that the liner retaining rivets were painted a slightly different shade than the helmet.  This is common as the liner rivets were not factory painted, but assembled by private manufacturing firms and shipped to helmet factories for use in helmet assembly.
