This well known photograph clearly illustrates the M1934 medium duty protective helmet in use by SS Security Police (Sipo).  The two men at center and right wear the M1934 helmet with decals applied in standard SS configuration.  The man at left wears a World War I model M1918 helmet converted for SS use.  It was not uncommon for World War I model helmets to be used in situations that required a heavier helmet that afforded more protection.
