    Technische Nothilfe Insignia

Decal Description

Many of the helmets worn by members of the Technical Emergency Corps (Technische Nothilfe) had no insignia whatsoever.  On occasion helmets were given decals in the form of a TeNo eagle insignia and the National tricolored shield in black, white, and red.  The TeNo eagle insignia was unique in the fact that it had the general appearance of a common chicken rather that the typically well designed National Socialist eagle1.  The eagle insignia was printed in white on a black shield and was only produced as a decal transfer.  The TeNo eagle was designed so that it was clutching a mobile swastika with a cogged wheel denoting labor.  In the center of the cogged wheel appeared a hammer and the letter "N."  The hammer combined with the letter "N" formed the appearance of the letters "TN" denoting "Technische Nothilfe."

When applied, the TeNo eagle was generally placed on the left side of a helmet with the National tricolored shield appearing on the right.  In some cases it appears that only the TeNo decal was applied.

Notes:

1 A small number of these decals have been postwar produced in water slide format.
