    Waffen-SS Second Pattern Helmet Cover

The helmet cover shown below is an excellent example of the second design type introduced in 1942 and produced in oak pattern camouflage cloth with foliage loops.  Of interest is the fact that the metal clips are anodized steel with steel retaining rivets.  Some Waffen-SS cloth covers were manufactured using aluminum clips and aluminum rivets.  It is not uncommon to find authentic clips with either metal or aluminum rivets.  Helmet covers were produced in various sizes to accommodate the shell size of the steel helmet.  The one depicted rests on a 64cm sized shell.
